The Connecting File, Vol VI, No. 3, September 1927 (Printed Feb 1928)
The Cathedral of All Saints, Halifax, was the scene of an extremely interesting and attractive ceremony, on the 27th June [1927], when Captain Hugh Benson Poston, of The Royal Canadian Regiment, was married to Ethel Mary, only daughter of Colonel Commandant and Mrs A.H.H. Powell.
Captain K.M. Holloway, The RCR, was groomsman. The ushers were Major E.R. Vince, M.C., R.C.E., Major M.K. Greene, The RCR, Major A.V. Tremaine, R.C.A., and Major J.S. Roper, M.C., Reserve of Officers.
The groom, the best man and all the W.O.'s, N.C.O.'s and men of The RCR, who were present at the church service, wore Full Dress, while the remaining Officers of the garrison wore "Blue," giving the ceremony a touch of colour, which had not been seen in the garrison since the days before the Great War.
The bridal pair left the Cathedral under an arch of crossed swords and bayonets, and after a reception at the home of the bride's parents proceeded by motor car to Prince Edward Island, followed by the best wishes of a host of friends.
The Connecting File, Vol XI, No. 3, July 1936
"This issue sees with great regret the retirement to pension of Major H.B. Poston, after 23 years service with the Regiment. He came to us 14.8.13 from the 8th Royal Rifles, Quebec, a unit which has given us other splendid officers. We are all very sorry to see him leave and we wish Major and Mrs Poston much happiness for many years to come."
Also printed in the same issue:
"The Serjeants' Mess, in common with the whole of Regimental H.Q. was sorry to see the departure of Major H.B. and Mrs Poston on retirement. They were presented with a silver frame which contained a photograph of the Silver War Memorial in the Officers' Mess. We wish them every happiness and we are sure they will enjoy the delightful climate of Nova Scotia where they intend to retire.
Date of Birth - 7 Mar 1887
Date of Death - 1 Jan 1948, age 53, buried at Fort Massey Cemetery, Halifax, NS.
